A beautifully written collection of 32 essays from Riverhorse Nakadate—angler, musician, conservationist, and lifelong adventurer—celebrating the healing power of water, wild places, and a life lived outdoors.
Perfect for readers of Edward Abbey, Barry Lopez, Mary Oliver, and Jim Harrison, Water Lines is an inspiring journey through rivers, forests, coastlines, and mountain landscapes that reminds us why protecting nature matters.
From the alpine lakes of Colorado to the salt marshes of Texas, the trout streams of Minnesota, and the mangrove forests of the Yucatán, Riverhorse Nakadate shares unforgettable stories of adventure, reflection, and connection.
Across thirty-two essays, he paddles, hikes, surfs, fishes, and explores while reflecting on:
Blending humor, heartbreak, and poetic storytelling, Water Lines is much more than a fishing book—it's a celebration of living intentionally and embracing the outdoors.
"Reading these essays is a bit like sitting around a campfire by a lake at night, listening to Nakadate muse about his numerous adventures, large and small... A natural-born storyteller, Nakadate can turn on a dime from amusing and wry to pithy and aphoristic, then wind up charming and sweet... A delicious collection to be savored individually or as a whole."
"Water Lines is a beautiful, beautiful work. Nathaniel Riverhorse Nakadate has stuck a dart into the wind. And like a Texas largemouth, best to just inhale it."
