"Small Batch Flies" | Hand-Tied Flies, Unmatched Quality

    About TLC Flies

Timmy Chen began tying flies in the summer of 2018 after receiving a fly tying kit as a gift. What began as curiosity quickly shifted into an obsession, and his desire to share his passion for fly fishing and fly tying with others eventually led to the creation of TLC Flies. Timmy aims to deliver products with the needs of the angler in mind, which is why each fly is hand tied with strict attention to detail and designed to last. All patterns offered undergo testing in a variety of stillwater and moving water conditions in order to give customers confidence in bringing fish to the net.

When he’s not on the water or at the vise, Timmy can be found helping customers at his local Orvis shop. He also holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the Juilliard School in Double Bass Performance and is a member of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans.

All flies are hand-tied and shipped within 3-5 days

    PATTERNS

    Braided Hybrid Worm

Derived from John Montana’s Hybrid Carp Fly and adapted into a euro nymph, the braided hybrid worm is a mixture of enticing materials. A combination of starling soft hackle and peacock herl gives this fly admirable movement underwater, and a pearl core braid tail imitates a fluorescing worm that fish can’t seem to resist. Additionally, the peacock herl body is counter wrapped with monofilament which adds slight segmentation while giving the fly more durability.

Offered in sets of 6 in size 14 (3.5mm slotted tungsten bead) or 16 (3.2mm slotted tungsten bead).

Higa’s SOS Jig (Black and Olive)

This baetis imitation, originally authored by Spencer Higa, acquired its name from the countless occasions it bailed out anglers. Modified into a jig, this fly’s slim body, in partnership with a slotted tungsten bead, helps it sink to the fish quickly. Featuring krystal flash legs, pheasant tail fibers, and a red floss wing case pulled over a dubbed thorax, it achieves a lifelike appearance while providing luminescence that can’t be missed.

Offered in sets of 6 in sizes 16 (3.2mm slotted tungsten bead) or 18 (2.8mm slotted tungsten bead).

    Mini Pine Squirrel Leech

A very simple, small streamer that can be dead drifted under an indicator or retrieved. Either technique guarantees to bring a variety of species to the end of your line. Working in conjunction with a slotted tungsten bead and a barbless jig hook, the pine squirrel tail and palmered body achieve the most alluring subsurface motion.

Offered in sets of 3 in size 12 (3.8mm slotted tungsten bead).

    CDC Carrot Nymph

Considered one of the most reliable hare’s ear variations in the competition scene, the carrot nymph should have a spot in any angler’s box. This euro fly brings confidence by sinking fast and providing plenty of bugginess for trout to drool over. Although it probably can’t be proven, it’s obvious that fish really pounce on the contrast created by the orange hotspot and hot orange ultra wire against the premium CDC and hare’s ear dubbing.

Offered in sets of 6 in size 14 (3.5mm slotted tungsten bead) or 16 (3.2mm slotted tungsten bead).

    Royal Warrior Jig

The Royal Warrior Jig is simply a color variation from Lance Egan’s Rainbow Warrior, which needs no introduction. This bug’s flashy and slender body sinks fast, and is reinforced by a thin coat of UV flow resin for extra durability. While it doesn’t imitate anything in particular, fish all over the world seem to go nuts for it. Performs at its best in pools and fished as a searching or attractor pattern.

Offered in sets of 6 in size 16 (3.2mm slotted tungsten bead) or 18 (2.8mm slotted tungsten bead).

The flies I received from the two different tiers seem to be very well done. I have not been able to try them out yet, but I think they will work well
